A NEW application has been lodged for live music at the Royal Oak pub, Loughton.
The Forest Road pub attracted well over 100 objections when it previously applied for a music licence in August, when its proposal was rejected by district councillors who felt the changes would disturb local residents.
The new application asks for permission for two live singers to perform Thursday to Sunday, and also for a DJ.
More than 130 people have written to the council objecting to the application. Among the objectors are Loughton Town Council and Epping Forest District Council's planning department.
Harriet Stevens, of Forest Road, states in her objection letter: "I wish to oppose this application on the grounds of public safety, the prevention of nuisance and the protection of children from harm. The ambition of the proprietor it would seem is to establish a profitable nightclub in a residential area. This application must be unequivocally rejected in its entirety."
Pub landlord Martin Beckett says the changes would reinstate permissions the pub previously enjoyed. He has submitted standard letters signed by 425 people in support of the application.
The letter states: "The Royal Oak is a very well run establishment with friendly staff and management. Over many years it has become well known for supplying good entertainment in the form of DJs and singers that cater for a mature age group."
The application will be discussed by the council's licensing committee at the Civic Offices, Epping, from 10am on Thursday, November 1.
