COMMUTERS will have to cough up extra cash to park at tube stations in the new year.
Transport for London (TfL) is raising prices at dozens of its station car parks across the capital from January 5.
Motorists at Snaresbrook and South Woodford Stations will face some of the highest tariffs in London with prices increasing from £4.50 to £6 on weekdays.
It will cost £5 to park in the car park at Woodford Station – a rise of £1.
Charges at Wanstead Station will rise from £4 to £5, while prices will go up from £3.50 to £5 in the car park at Barkingside Station.
Charges will also rise on weekends and Bank Holidays.
The average tariff at TfL car parks will be £5.07 which TfL says compares favourably with an average of £8.26 at other local car parks.
The company has not increased tariffs since September 2010.
Graeme Craig, Director of Commercial Development at TfL said: “We have taken the decision to increase the tariffs at many of our car parks to bring them in line with local competitors.”
And he added: “This is the first increase in charges in more than two years and our charges remain below the market rate.”
TfL is also considering introducing pay by phone technology as a payment option in its car parks.
