Lee Valley Regional Park has been recognised for the high standard of its green spaces.

The authority's four submissions to Keep Britain Tidy within east London and west Essex for a Green Flag Award were all successful and recieved the accolade.

The Green Flags will now be flown at Waltham Abbey Gardens and Gunpowder Park in Waltham Abbey and Walthamstow Marsh, Walthamstow, and the WaterWorks nature reserve in Leyton.

Waltham Abbey Gardens also achieved the Green Heritage award from English Heritage which promotes the value of, and best practice in, the care and upkeep of historic sites.

Senior Parklands Manager at Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, Jon Carney, said: “We’re really proud that of the sites submitted, 100 per cent were successful.

 “We have a policy of conservation, enhancement, protection and promotion through effective environmental management and it’s great to be recognised for the efforts and achievements of all our staff and volunteers.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “A Green Flag Award provides national recognition for all the parks managers, staff and volunteers who, through their dedication and hard work, have helped to create these fantastic places for everyone to enjoy.
