MP Lee Scott has been given a new role helping people with special educational needs into jobs.
The member for Ilford North will direct existing government programmes aimed at increasing opportunities for people with learning difficulties.
Figures show four out of five young adults with autism and other special needs are currently out of work.
Mr Scott said: “I am grateful to David Cameron for his decision to give me this enhanced task to help young people with special needs.”
“We have seen that, provided with the right opportunity and support, these young people can make a real contribution in the work place. A job also helps reinforce their self esteem and their confidence.”
“Kids with Autism and Asperger’s syndrome are excellently suited to IT roles, but there will be a multitude of roles in other areas.”
Mr Scott stood down from his role as parliamentary private secretary to Lord Chancellor Chris Grayling last month.
“Something’s go beyond politics, these people deserve this help and it’s something I have wanted to do for a long time,” he added.
