Explosions and loud bangs alerted the fire service to a large boat blaze in a river.
A 25 foot long river boat moored on the River Lea near Forest Road, Walthamstow was severely damaged by the fire last night (May 5).
The fire was extinguished before a gas cylinder on board could catch alight.
The brigade was called by a member of the public at 11pm saying they’d heard a bang and explosion by the river.
Four fire engines and around 21 firefighters from Tottenham and Walthamstow stations attended the fire.
Crew manager Steve Hardy helped tackle the fire for nearly two hours before it was completely extinguished.
He said: “The boat was well alight when firefighters arrived and quickly put the fire out, but the boat was severely damaged by the blaze.
"A propane gas cylinder inside the boat was cooled down and made safe.”
"The cause of the fire is still under investigation."
