A primary school pupil has taken his first step towards his dream of becoming a professional footballer.
Eight-year-old Dawson White from Chingford, is hoping to follow in the footsteps of former Larkswood Primary Academy pupil, Harry Kane, after signing a one-year FA schoolboy contract with Tottenham Hotspur FC.
Dawson trained with club's Chelsea, West Ham, Leyton Orient and Reading before meeting with former defender Ledley King and signing for Spur.
A special assembly was held at the New Road school yesterday (July 15) to mark the achievement where Dawson was presented with his own school-designed Nike football boots in front of the entire school.
Excited to be playing for his favourite club, Dawson, said: “I got a bag which is bigger than me, training gear, training shoes and a training track suit, a polo shirt and a big coat.
"It’s the same training kit as the first team".
Headteacher Lynne Harrowell said the school is "developing a reputation for unearthing sporting talent."
Ms Harrowell, added: "This is a great early achievement for Dawson.
"We are all very proud and we hope it inspires and encourages other pupils.
"Our school fully embraces competitive sports across all year groups; we believe competition provides children with the ability to challenge themselves, to develop a healthy mind-set, and to prepare them for life in an increasingly competitive global workforce."
The school converted to academy status in February and is now calling on parents and the community to nominate individuals as part of its search for local heroes.
International star Harry Kane went on to Chingford Foundation School in Nevin Drive, where he played for local team Ridgeway Rovers, and then Arsenal FC and Watford before signing for Tottenham.
He was named PFA's Young Player of the Year in April having scored 31 goals last season.
