The statue of Winston Churchill in Woodford Green has been given Grade II conservation status.
The -two-and-a-half metre tall bronze statue stands on the junction of Woodford Green High Road and Broomhill Walk.
It has been given a Grade II listing by Historic England as part of a new programme to protect post-war public art.
A Grade II listing helps protect historic buildings, landscapes, and landmarks from planning changes.
Leader of Redbridge Council, Councillor Jas Athwal, said: “He was an inspirational statesman and leader, so I am delighted that the statue of Winston Churchill has been awarded a Grade II listing.”
The story of the 1959 Churchill statue and other newly listed sculptures will be told further at Historic England’s ‘Out There: Our Post-War Public Art’ exhibition at Somerset House, in Strand, central London, next month.
