A disabled man says he is “trapped” in his house after he was given a new blue badge with the photograph of a random man.
Kevin Dillon, of Manor Farm Drive, Chingford, received his new badge on Friday (January 22) but was surprised to see that it was the wrong photograph.
The 73-year-old, who uses a wheelchair when he leaves the house due to suffering three strokes, phoned Waltham Forest council and was told it would investigate the error.
He was told he would still be able to use the badge and would get a phone call in the next few days.
But he never received the call he was promised and phoned the council himself yesterday.
Mr Dillon said the council officer denied all knowledge of his case.
He was told he was not allowed to use the badge because with the wrong photograph it is void.
He said: “I didn’t notice anything was wrong until my wife Carol turned round to me and said ‘that is not you!’.
“I have no idea who he is.
“It confused me that one person from the council said I could use the badge and another said I couldn’t.
“At the moment it is illegal if I use disabled bays so I feel trapped.”
Mr Dillon, who has a disabled parking bay outside his house, has lived in Chingford for 10 years and grew up in Walthamstow.
He added: “I was first told it would take up to 28 days to sort out and then around a week.
"It doesn't make sense and would like to know what the situation is.
"I feel like I am going to be stuck indoors for a long time and want to know when I will get my new badge.
"It is a big inconvenience."
Cllr Clyde Loakes, deputy leader of Waltham Forest council, said it was trying to sort the issue as soon as possible.
He said: “I’d like to apologise to Mr Dillon for the fact his badge was issued with the wrong photo.
“This was an administrative error that we are rectifying and he should be in receipt of his new badge in the next week.”
