Tickets have gone on sale for The Slide at the Olympic Park’s ArcelorMittal Orbit tower, as the attraction prepares to open in June.
At 178m, The Slide will be the world’s tallest and longest tunnel slide when it launches to the public on Friday, June 24.
The attraction is being lifted into place by a team of specialist abseilers, who have completed 12 of the 30 planned pipe sections.
The Slide’s creator, Carsten Höller and Orbit artist, Anish Kapoor, visited the site today (Tuesday, April 26) to view the project’s progress.
Mr Höller, said: “Since 1999, I have built a number of slides, both free-standing and attached to buildings, but never onto another artwork as in this case.
“Now that the two artworks will be intertwined with each other, I see it as one of these double situations that I am so interested in.
“I like it when a sense of unity is reached in two separate entities, and you can find this thought to repeatedly occur in my work.”
Entry to the tower and The Slide will cost £17 for adults, or £12 for children, with a £2 discount for local residents.
During the 40-second trip, riders will reach speeds of up to 15 miles per hour, with London’s skyline visible through transparent sections of the tube.
The Orbit is Britain’s largest piece of public art. The 376-foot tower was completed in May 2012 and was largely funded by steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal.
Plans were announced in July 2015 to construct a slide at the tower, in a bid to attract additional visitors.
