WITH just five years to go before the 2012 Olympic Games, local swimming clubs are to lose their training pool.
The 30-metre swimming pool at Waltham Forest College is to close at the end of July. The Guardian understands it has been running at a loss for some time and that the college's decision is primarily financial.
The pool is open to the public, but is particularly favoured over local leisure pools by schools and competitive clubs.
There are no plans to convert or adapt the space once the pool is closed.
Waltham Forest College have confirmed the closure and will issue a statement early next week.
