A PARTY hall near where a violent attack happened has withdrawn its request to sell alcohol at a 50th birthday this weekend.
Police say a 22-year-old man was found shot and stabbed in a car outside Praba Banqueting Hall, in High Road, Ilford, during celebrations for a 21st birthday party at 5am on Sunday. One man has been arrested for affray.
Redbridge Council were due to consider the temporary application to sell booze at the venue from 7pm Saturday February 12 until 5am the following morning.
But the meeting, due to take place this morning, was cancelled.
The Metropolitan Police were concerned that the proposal was for “a promoted event disguised as a birthday party.”
The application was put forward on January 29 with the police raising their objection on January 31.
In their complaint police state that 400 tickets were being sold through a secure website, with 80 held back for friends and family.
In the application, police concerns state: “At this time police cannot carry out a suitable risk assessment and it would be ill advised to permit licensable activities at this venue.
“The venue have been subject the reliable reports of gang nominal attending with the intention to cause disorder and possibly commit crime.
“For this reason police are objecting under the prevention of crime and disorder as recent intel has suggested this venue is starting to gain links with gang nominal’s.”
The application, submitted by an individual and not the business, was withdrawn and so the venue will not be allowed sell alcohol this weekend.
