PLANS to build a new three-bedroom house over the site of existing garages in a 1930s estate will go before councillors next Monday, months after the application was originally meant to be heard.
Members of the Redbridge Council's Regional Planning Committee West will meet on March 15 to consider the application for a new home adjacent to 57 Onslow Gardens in the Nightingale Estate area of Wanstead.
Councillors have previously agreed to one set of plans for the site - which is currently occupied by a brick garage and wooden car port - for a single storey extension and the erection of a patio.
However, a decision on the plan for an entirely new dwelling was deferred at the last meeting to councillors to visit the site.
The application was first meant to be considered in January but was delayed due to the heavy snow.
The council's planning authority has recommended that the application be granted, despite five neighbours submitting objections to the council, expressing concerns about the parking implications and the new home not being in keeping with the 1930s period housing in the street.
In addition, neighbours are concerned that the new house would sit too close to adjoining homes and block out natural light.
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “The density of housing round here is just getting crazy. I wrote a letter to the council to object, but they never even responded, they just said there was going to be a meeting.
“Where are all the extra cars going to park? It's becoming impossible. There are already houses that have been converted to flats, where you've got one dwelling turned into four, so where are all these extra cars going to go?
“On a week day when everyone's going to work its unbelievably busy down here. And you've got the school nearby so that makes parking and access so much harder.”
The committee will meet at Sir James Hawkey Hall in Woodford Green on Monday March 15.
