UP to 15 people may have been involved in yesterday's stabbing in Leytonstone, police have said.
The revelation comes as officers released more information about the attack this evening, including news that a man has now been arrested in connection with it.
Meanwhile the 50-year-old victim is still in hospital following the incident, which happened at around 6pm on Wednesday (September 1) by Iceland in the High Road.
Officers are keeping an open mind about the motive.
A Met spokeswoman said the force had not ruled out suspicions that the stabbing was gang related, but added that there are "a number" of suspects being hunted by officers.
It has also emerged that the victim of the attack was stabbed twice - once in the back and once in the side of his torso.
A knife, which was suspected to have been used in the attack and then dumped shortly afterwards, was found by police outside the Zulu pub on the High Road.
Officers will appeal for witnesses once they establish more details about what happened.
