MEASURES to improve cycling are planned after a £385,000 grant was secured.
Transport for London (TfL) has pledged the cash, which will pay for new cycle lanes and parking facilities in Snaresbrook and South Woodford - particularly in and around George Lane.
Redbridge Council is aiming to increase the percentage of residents who cycle from the current level of one per cent level to 1.5 per cent by 2013.
Councillor Michelle Dunn, cabinet member for highways, said, "Some earlier funding secured from TfL last year helped us conduct a study to analyse how and where greater levels of cycling could best be achieved in Redbridge so that best use can be made of the investment.
“I am delighted we were successful with our bid and I hope it will result in more people using two wheels to get around.
“The funding will be used to develop cycling projects and initiatives within Snaresbrook and South Woodford cycle hub with a view to rolling out the more successful events across the borough where funding permits.”
