A mix of new school buildings, apartment blocks and a refurbished 18th century house are included on the list of nominations for this year’s Waltham Forest Design Awards.
The awards, run by Waltham Forest Council in partnership with the Guardian, recognise new buildings, refurbishments or extensions which have changed their areas for the better.
Six designs are from last year, when the event was not held due to a lack of building works, are included on the list of 17 nominations.
These include a rainbow-coloured nursery at George Tomlinson Primary School in Vernon Road, Leytonstone, and 323 apartments to be built in Paper Mill Place, Walthamstow.
The refurbishment and restoration of Clock House in Wood Street, Walthamstow, has also made the list. It was built in 1706 by Sir Jacob Jacobson, a Dutch merchant.
The judges will visit each of the projects on October 12 and announce their decision at an award ceremony in late November.
