The owner of a Wanstead restaurant says he is in shock after a man was stabbed on his doorstep.
A 44-year-old man was stabbed in High Street, Wanstead at around 5.30am yesterday morning.
Police say the man made his own way to Lewisham hospital in South London and that the hospital contacted them to inform them of the incident.
His injuries have been described as non-life threatening, but the Dai Viet restaurant in High Street was closed and taped off for most of yesterday.
The cordon was removed in the evening and Kin Ho, who told the Guardian he had taken over the premises three months ago, said he would reopen for business later today.
He said: “The first I found out about this was when the police called me in the morning.
“I’m still in shock to tell you the truth.”
A PCSO at the scene told the Guardian that CID officers had been inside Dai Viet, and Mr Ho confirmed that police had been inside the restaurant.
He said: “Because this happened on our doorstep they wanted to come in and have a look.
“But after that they were happy that nothing happened inside.”
A police spokeswoman told the Guardian that the stabbing was being treated as a ‘domestic incident’ but could not provide any further information at this time.
