AN 80-YEAR-OLD man who was stabbed to death in his home has been formally identified.
Albert Wright, known as Bert, was found dead at his home in Trelawney Road, Hainault, just before midnight on Friday with multiple stab wounds.
Police believe he had returned home in his car at about 5.30pm and was stabbed between 6pm and 7pm, as neighbours heard shouting at his house at this time.
Detective Chief Inspector John Macdonald, who is leading the investigation, said: “It is not clear at the moment what the motive was. Nothing has been taken from the property and there is no evidence of forced entry.
“Bert was a popular resident of Hainault and there is nothing in his background to suggest why anyone would kill him.
“I would urge anyone who has information about who may have done this to come forward.
“It was a cowardly attack and whoever did this is not worth protecting.”
Anyone who was in Trelawney Road between 6pm and 7pm on Friday evening or with any information about the murder should call the incident room on 0208 345 3985 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
