AVRAM GRANT blasted football's lawmakers after Freddie Piquionne was shown a second yellow card for celebrating his late goal with the travelling fans during the 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park.
The West Ham boss demanded a change in the rules after Piquionne was sent off, having put his side 2-1 up, but the visitors then conceded a late Marouane Fellaini goal to leave Merseyside with one point rather than the three they had looked like taking.
“I tell you something, for me it is a joke, this red card,” said Grant. “What happens is that we score a goal he went to celebrate with the supporters. Who deserved it more than the supporters? The player wants to celebrate with them.
“It's not like he did something wrong, he just went over there to celebrate with them, the people who deserve it more than anybody. They are behind us. They came to the game so we celebrate with them.
“I know this is the law, but the law needs to change. I remember it was 10-15 years ago players celebrate. Now we tell them to shake hands, say thank you. It's an emotional game. When I score goals with the staff at training on Thursday I am celebrating. Let's just hope I wont get a red card.
We are asking for the players to keep the rules, he scored a very important goal, I don’t think it's something wrong.”
