PUPILS in Redbridge have achieved the fifth best GCSE results in the country, according to provisional results released by the government.

The percentage gaining five A* to C grades including English and maths was 70.2 percent.

And the number of students who achieved five A* to G grades was 97.3 percent, placing Redbridge 10th in England and Wales, up from 29th last year.

Cllr Alan Weinberg, cabinet member for Children's Services, said: "The results year on year just get better and better and it's remarkable how our pupils continue to outperform the majority of their counterparts across the country."

Further details are set to be released by the Department of Education in January. .
