SCHOOLCHILDREN were given an ‘inspirational’ talk by Tottenham MP David Lammy as part of Black History Month.

Mr Lammy addressed pupils at Woodbridge High School in St Barnabas Road, Woodford Green on Monday.

Woodbridge High geography teacher Jamie Steacy-Buck, said: “It was a very inspirational talk.

“He discussed the importance of education and community spirit and also touched on last year’s riots.

“We are a diverse school and his talk was aimed at everybody. I had students from all walks of life telling me how much they enjoyed it.”

As part of Black History Month, the school was also visited by the poet Kat Francois who talked about her upbringing and read some of her poems.

Black History Month runs throughout October and provides an opportunity to
celebrate Asian, African and Caribbean cultures and their contribution to the arts, science, politics, business etc throughout history and today.
