AN ALL-DAY music festival is being held at a popular pub this weekend to raise awareness about a campaign to save it from being turned into flats.
The free 'Birkfest' event is from 2pm this Sunday (October 28) at The Birkbeck Tavern in Langthorne Road, Leytonstone.
The pub was put on the market this summer for £575,000 after owner Sarumdale Ltd went into administration. Most of those who have reportedly expressed an interest in buying it are property developers.
Regulars launched a petition urging Waltham Forest Council not to grant planning permission for any future bid to turn the site into flats.
It has already been signed by more than 1,700 people.
Among the acts playing are Cowbell, Ben Folke Thomas, Steve White & The Protest Family, Graham Larkbey & The Escape Committee, Ceephax and Dogs Chasing Goats.
There will also be a BBQ outside - weather permitting.
Petition organiser Jess Dickenson, 33, previously told the Guardian: "The point of the day is to showcase the pub as the thriving community pub that it is."
