A FORMER Royal Marine will attempt to break the world record for the fastest ever speed march marathon.
David Lawrence, 53, of New Wanstead, who retired from the forces in 1987 and became a policeman, will join a team of serving marines on the challenge on November 10.
The course is 26.2 miles through the streets of London and participants must carry full kit and weapons weighing over 40lbs.
Mr Lawrence's team hope to complete the course in under four hours and 19 minutes, while raising money for the Royal Marines Association.
He said: "It is a challenge and I hope it will grab peoples imagination and open their pockets."
