RESULTS of a survey which asked 200 households what they would like done to a treasured green space have been announced.
The Wanstead Society canvassed its members in October and asked them if they would like Evergreen Field in High Street, Wanstead, turned into a space for community use.
Of the 200 households asked, the society received 143 replies.
Of the 143 replies 139 households said they were in favour of the fenced-off area being transformed into community use.
Only two households said they disagreed and two said they didn't know.
The Wanstead Society have applied for planning permission to the council to turn Evergreen Field into a space the public can use.
Society spokesman Geoff Horsnell said: "This is fantastic news.
"I think the next thing is, is to wait for the 21 day consultation period to finish and then hopefully we will to see what happens when the application goes to council."
The field was bought by Dalco Developments Ltd in May for £200,000.
Planning law does not prevent people who do not own land or buildings from seeking permission for proposed uses.
