HALLOWEEN and Bonfire Night fires in Waltham Forest have dropped by more than half over the last five years, according to new figures.
The figures released by the London Fire Brigade show that last year firefighters attended only one fire on Bonfire Night compared to 12 fires on the same day in 2006.
They also show that firefighters attended 477 incidents between October 24 and November 10 last year, whereas in 2006 they attended 891 incidents in the same period, which is a decrease by 52 percent.
Despite the drop in the number of fires attended, London Fire Brigade are still warning people not to be complacent and are offering the following tips:
- Attend organised displays
- Never leave bonfires unattended and make sure they are out before leaving them
- Light bonfires well away from sheds, fences, bushes and trees.
