Children and adults of all ages gathered at Chestnut field (behind Walthamstow town hall) on Monday 5th November to mark the 407th anniversary of the gunpowder plot; were Guy Fawkes and co-conspirators unsuccessfully attempted to blow up parliament.
Although pet owners dreaded the night, locals and visitors noted the night as memorable as they gaze upon the Olympic themed firework display. The event music and funfair was just a small part of what was planned for the night for the kids and their families.
The weather may not have been to your favour as temperatures dropped roughly to 10°. Despite the weather many said that it was a fantastic night to remember; loud bangs caused hearts to jump, the bright sparks captivated the audience as the gazed mesmerized upon the brightly lit sky in amazement.
Organizers left viewers at the edge of their seats wondering what was next.They had feared that not many people would come along to the free event as the number of Halloween trick or treaters in Walthamstow were at an all-time low this year. Some claim it was due to the weather however Guy Fawkes night over shadowed the community cohesion and welcoming atmosphere caused visitors wanting to return next year.
The night was oozing with excitement as locals and visitors of all ages danced the night away.As the night came to an end many wondered what was in-store for next year , a variety of questions were asked such as: Would the organizers be able to top this one? What would the theme be for next year? We were all left curious but we just have to wait and see.
