The infamous Guido Fawkes, a Catholic terrorist who attempted to kill King James I by blowing up the Houses Of Parliament, would never know about the festivities that he inspired (even in secular modern-day England), which occur each year on the Fifth of November.
On the Fourth, Barkingside showed their Bonfire Night spirit by delivering another amazing annual Musical Fireworks display in Barkingside Park.
This has been a tradition for over 10 years and is widely enjoyed by visitors from Barkingside, Clayhall and beyond.
The Musical Fireworks transformed Barkingside Park into a light-filled mini-fairground, with candy floss, fairground games, a big inflatable slide, a bungee trampoline and other exciting attractions to accompany the display. Gates opened at 5.30 pm and there were two displays; one at 7.00 and the main display at 8.00.
The event seems to have been a public success once again. "As ever the turnout's been fantastic; there've been loads of smiley faces... I think they've pulled off a great start to Bonfire Night," enthuses Brian Weston, 34.
Bonfire Night comes just before the Hindu festival of light, Diwali, so you can expect to see even more explosive action for some time after Bonfire Night.
The event will be hosted at the same time and place next year, with the same entry fee of £4 for adults and £2 for children.
