Multi-million pound… library? Yes, it’s real. The Olympic success story in Ilford that, in fact, affects many lives is no myth. The new Ilford Central Library was revealed on Tuesday 4th July after experiencing a complete makeover following the summer Olympic events in London.
A place to work, have fun and read the day away, feel absorbed in a book or research till you find answers with access to Wi-Fi and much more laptop space… Redbridge Central Library is truly rejuvenated! The developments were intended to make the library more energy efficient and a better environment for kids, adults and visitors. There is now access to several iPads and availability of new computers for enjoyment and work purposes for everyone.
An opportunity to get the little ones’ imaginations flourishing…there’s An “Enchanted Forest” area with video projections which aims to inspire children to read on the colourful sofas, encouraging parents and children to stay and relax. The atmosphere is very welcoming and clearly the investment was put to good use! The coffee shop is popular with locals and the self-service machines are highly appreciated.
Councillor Robin Turbefield, Redbridge Council’s cabinet member for leisure and youth services said: “I am sure these new improvements will be welcomed by the local community and I hope it will encourage more people to use the library and all the wonderful new facilities. I am sure people will want to spend quality time in the library.”
Councillor Robin also described the Library as ‘A library fit for the 21st Century.’
The Multi-Million pound makeover has clearly had its effect and a praiseworthy one it has had which will no doubt serve the people of Redbridge and others for a long time to come.
