AN investigation has been launched into the cause of a fire at two storage buildings.
The blaze broke out at property belonging to the North Hainault Allotment Society in Tomswood Road, Hainault, at just after 3.30am yesterday (Friday November 9).
Both buildings were badly damaged but fire-fighters managed to prevent it spreading to a nearby car workshop and garage.
There were no reported injuries.
The Fire Brigade's watch manager Paul Green, who was at the scene, said: “Crews did very well to contain the fire quickly and keep it from spreading.
"Workshops are always a hazard when involved in fire, because of the various chemicals and cylinders that are often stored there.
"Fire-fighters worked very hard to keep it away from the workshop, and protected several cars from damage.
"Fortunately no-one was injured.”
Six fire engines and around 30 fire-fighters from Hainault, Romford, Ilford, and Woodford battled the blaze and brought it under control at around 5am.
