THE powerful Magpie Lane is the star attraction of Loughton Folk Club's weekly shindig this Thursday (November 15).


This five-piece perform traditional English music and song in a range of inventive arrangements.


Support comes from the talented half folk, half country ish Steve O'Kane and superb singer Fiona McBain.
 

The gig costs £10. It's at the Loughton Club in Station Road, with doors swinging open around 8pm.


The danceable but soulful duo 11 Foot Sack returns to the 17Blues Club night in Walthamstow this Saturday (November 17).


It's at Walthamstow Cricket Club in Greenway Avenue and starts around 8.30pm.


Support comes from DJ Lanky Mick.


Entry is free but donations welcome.
 

Canadian quartet The Fugitives play the Birkbeck Tavern in Leytonstone with Adrian Glynn on Sunday (November 18).


They are a group of musicians, poets and multi-instrumentalists from Vancouver and have played all over the world.
 

Support comes from fiddle tune duo the A&E Oldtime String Band
It starts at 6pm and is free, although donations to the acts encouraged.


And the pub, in Langthorne Road,  hosts Americana act Hymn for Her next Wednesday (November 21).


Scottish melodic rock 'n' roll man Raymond Meade, formerly of The Ronelles, is also on the bill promoting his debut solo album.
 

It's from  8.30pm and the show is also organised by promoters What's Cookin'.


The East Side Jazz Club hosts another groovy night next Tuesday (November 20).
 

The music is provided by Tony Coe on the reeds, John Horler on piano, Andrew Cleyndert on bass and Clive Fenner on drums.
 

Admission to the club, at the Lord Rookwood pub, is £5. It's from 8.30pm.
 

The acclaimed Maggie Boyle headlines Walthamstow Folk Club with Paul Downes on guitar.


The gig is on Sunday (November 18) from 7.30pm at Ye Olde Rose and Crown pub in Hoe Street.


Admission is £7, or £5 for concessions.
