The UK AMA’s are held annually and Desimag called the event "The most prestigious Asian music awards ceremony in the UK".
The atmosphere at Wembley Arena was fuelled by excitement and the large crowds were treated to performances from rising Asian stars - Arjun who has an astonishing 15 million YouTube hits, fashion passionate and multi-talented Kanika Kapoor with Bilal Saeed, YouTube sensation ‘One Pound Fish’ (who also appeared on the X Factor), worldwide hit artist Imran Khan and the winner of this year’s Nokia Unsigned Award, Amanjot Sangha.
I got up close and personal to this years winner of Nokia’s Unsigned Award, the drop-dead-gorgeous Amanjot Sangha, as her musical talents inspire and dazzle the crowds at Wembley. I can guarantee in a few years she will be collecting the award for ‘Asian Woman Best Female’.
What does music mean to you?
Music means a lot, it’s a passion and I have always wanted to sing. Music is a way for me to evoke memories and express whatever emotion I’m feeling.
When did you discover music was the right path for you?
I have always been singing casually around but when I was 9 I did a stage show, which really helped to build my confidence. I think to be truly successful you have to love what you do.
What artists inspire you?
Old classics like Whitney Houston inspire me and its mainly because you can feel the emotion in the song. I also love Indian Music and that’s really where I want to go.
How did it feel to win an AMA?
It was amazing! I was so overwhelmed and I didn’t expect to win the competition. I literally just uploaded a YouTube video of me singing and sent it in. Winning the award really confirmed that this is what I want to do.
What does the future look like for you?
I hope to have a career in singing but I know how harsh the music industry is. It is a hobby but I hope to be successful and if I wasn’t a singer I don’t know what else I would do.
