SEVEN homes were burgled in the space of an hour-and-a-half by two youths driving around Walthamstow in a stolen car, police believe.

The thieves struck at two houses in Ruby Road and two in Brettenham Road near Lloyd Park, at properties in St Georges Road and Woodside Park Avenue by Wood Street, and in Samantha Close off Markhouse Road.

All the burglaries happened between 2.10pm and 3.45pm last Tuesday (November 6), but police have only made details public today.

A Met spokeswoman said that the black Audi car thought to have been used by the crooks was discovered set alight at 3.45pm in Beaconsfield Road.

Its number plates had also been thrown into a back garden in the street.

The vehicle, which had distinctive silver coloured wing mirrors and alloys, had been stolen in Barnet on October 30.

A number of witnesses have come forward and police have released descriptions of its two suspects, who are both young white men.

The first is slim, clean shaven and about five foot eight to eleven tall.

He is aged around 16 to 18 years and was wearing blue jeans, trainers and a dark polo shirt.

The second suspect is thought to be around six feet tall and aged about 20.

He has short dark hair and was wearing jeans and a dark coloured top.

A Met spokeswoman said: "We would urge all residents to be vigilant and ensure their property is secure.

"We have targeted our patrols in areas identified as vulnerable, however, we would like the public to alert us if they see anything suspicious. Please call 999 immediately.

"We are also looking for any sightings of an older model dark green Vauxhall Vectra in connection with our investigation into burglaries across the borough."
