Having met up with Brit school student Layla Ley at Crystal café for a chat, we decided to question Layla about why she desires Justin Bieber as opposed to One Direction and why she’d love to work with Alicia Keys.
Layla Ley or as some may call her ‘Lilo’ as she resembles the cute Disney character, states that what she mostly enjoys about making music is “The fact that I’m able to express myself in the form that I love makes it more special, it’s a personal part of me that I’m giving out to the world. It can be daunting as I want people to like my music and connect emotionally with my lyrics however you can’t please everyone.”
After being asked “Justin Bieber or One Direction?” Layla replied Squealing with excitement and jumping on the spot, “OMG Justin Bieber! He’s SO hot and his music’s so good and the fact that he didn’t make it through a music competition franchise just gives us hope. One Direction are also hot but I personally think they don’t show much variety, they just make pop songs.” Layla showed her enthusiasm, it’s obvious she’s a ‘belieber’.
When asked what she can’t leave her house without, she stated “My oyster card or else WHERE AM I GOING? And Vaseline of course.”
I thought before the waitress glanced over at our table for the 7th time with a ‘What are you still doing here’ face I would ask, Layla who she would love to work with and why? She declares “Alicia Keys she’s been my main singing inspiration, however I wouldn’t want to work with her on a single if it sounds like her latest songs. Personally my kind of sound wouldn’t fit in with the new Alicia” Lilo exclaims with a smile. “However her sound from ‘Songs of a minor’ and ‘Diary of Alicia Keys’ are right up my street, I think our voices together in a ballad would sound heavenly.”
Catching up with an old colleague from Walthamstow Academy has been great. I look forward to hearing more of her developments in the near future, especially her E.P which she declares should be coming out in 2013. So remember the name “Layla Ley” because she’s super talented.
