Children’s centre extension eases disappointment
The recent budget cuts from the government has made it inevitable that popular facilities have to be shut down, this was the case for Harrow Green library in Leytonstone; despite numerous discussions and debates to keep the library open the idea to keep it running was still refused.
It was a difficult time for residents to come to terms with the news with the closure as the library had been open for many years and had a very friendly atmosphere. People, especially students and elderly citizens had to find a new quiet place for them to do their work; it was also a particularly hard time for the employees as they had to some to terms with the fact that they were going to lose their job.
Although in recent months, there has been some progress in the terms of the library has now become an extension to a children’s leaning centre. This had lifted some of the disappointment from residents; a local shopkeeper said ‘it’s a good thing that they are using the space for something beneficial instead of the place being abandoned and forgotten’.
Overall, extension has been beneficial to a greater extent as people in the area do not feel as let down about the situation as they did a few months ago. As a result it has increased the number of jobs again and has at least made use of the space which was highly appreciated by the public.
