After their success at local music event Music in The Park, I caught up with the lead singer of The Poison Berries to hear about the band and their inspirations.

The Poison Berries have gone through a few changes of line ups since they first formed three years ago, and have only been in their current form for less than a year. Lead singer Lara Janes-Walton is joined by Bassist and Singer Joe Giddings, Drummer Matt Mason and Lead Guitarist Sam Barnett. With the youngest member, Matt, just 15 and the oldest member, Joe, 20, they are an eclectic group.

Describing their sound as "indie-rock", Lara told me about the inspiration for their songs.

"We base them on lots of things - stuff we've been through, things we've read about, ideas that interest us, pretty much anything that we think will make a good song!"
And a good song it does make! After uploading some of their demos on to the music sharing service soundcloud, they had hundreds of listens in less than a week.

"We're hoping to promote them more. So far we've just put links on our Facebook group, but with some promotion we hope to reach a national, or even international, audience."

With these great ambitions, I have no doubt that the tenacious, determined Poison Berries will go far. You can get involved in the journey by following their Facebook page The Poison Berries, following them on twitter @PoisonBerriesUK or finding them at poisonberries on soundcloud.
