A concoction of a warped horror filled with twists and turns with pinches of comedy all performed on a 2 by 2 meter mat. That’s how the actors described their newest performance organized by the magnificent company, Theatre Ad Infinitum who had come to the Redbridge Drama Centre.
The actors who partook in this great opportunity were students from Seven Kings High School in both Sixth Form and Year 11. Their reenacted short performance based on the Snow White and the Seven Dwarves took place at the Redbridge Drama Centre; locals came to see their praiseworthy performance.
The show was an ensemble of our cherished fairytales that we would hear just before going to sleep, giving us enchanting dreams. These reenactments however, were distorted to possibly giving us nasty nightmares instead. They had Snow White, Cinderella and even Pinocchio!
I interviewed year 11 students who took part in the amazing chance, Ayaz and Manveer; they elaborated the experience of their new professional route into Show business. They made it clear that the training towards it was demanding in the sense of creativity and execution. A combination of both within school and after school hours had to be taken up so that they could perfect their performance. In their rehearsals they had to continuously work with 5 actors on the mat, making sure that they don’t step off it. Ayaz said, “It was physically challenging as you had to go over or under other actors to move around our restricted space”. However, he did say that it was enjoyable due to the challenging aspects of the performance.
The actors themselves chose iconic moments of Snow White where they wanted to focus on for their short show. Manveer said that, “It was great to have that freedom to choose what segments to reveal to our audience as then we were in charge of how the play flowed”.
Hilariously, Manveer played the comical icon in the performance as the Step Mother of Snow White and was extremely convincing in his seductive ways! Whilst Ayaz had played the father who was full of love but still stern in his ways which was an aperture for the horror elements of the play to seep through.
They both said that the experience was just phenomenal as it was physically challenging due to the restricted area they were given; they even revisited numerous drama techniques such as miming and perfected them: they even showed me a few moves!
This unfortunately was a one time performance however they are the rising stars of today and I am sure they will prosper in the show business world with their numerous talents. Look out for them!
