The latest US elections created history with Barack Obama being the first black president to be reinstated for another four years as president of the USA. Obama has a very determined and dedicated team who were right by his side during his stressful campaign.


In Leytonstone, Buxton School also has their very own leaders. You might perhaps think that I’m talking about the Head Teacher and her team of Senior Leaders. However I am talking about Buxton’s very own head boy and girl, who have stepped into shoes much bigger than their size.


Buxton’s head boy Danish Sajjad has been enjoying every moment of his thrilling tenure as head boy. When asked about how he felt during the campaigning process, he replied saying “It was an interesting yet insightful time for me. I was extremely dedicated and determined to make that position mine. Now that I am head boy, I understand how famous political leaders such as Barack Obama have to go through during their campaigning process. It was enthralling enough running a campaign in a school but I wouldn’t possible have survived the pressures of one of the most important countries in the world.” 


Nazneen Patel, head girl of Buxton School has had an even more stimulating experience as head girl. This is partly aided by the fact that it was almost a shock for her when she was declared as head girl for Buxton School. Now that she has settled into her challenging role she hopes to carry out many roles and responsibilities during her time as head girl. “I want to change the way people see Buxton. Most of the community reckons that we are just an average school but I want to make sure that Buxton is a caring and loving school. I have been at this school since year seven and now I can see the vast improvement Buxton has made during these five years...”


Although two people can make a difference in many ways, Danish and Nazneen are aided by even more students. This group has been labeled as the ‘Junior Leadership Team’. Over the next year this group is hoping to change quite a few aspects of the school. Community cohesion and behavior of pupils in school are just two of the aspects this exceptional team is aiming to change.


Danish and Nazneen have set an exemplary example of everything that a leader should set during their short tenure as head boy and head girl respectively. This will hold them in good shape for the future when the world will be looking for more dedicated, determined and decisive leaders…
