CONTROVERSIAL parking restrictions are set to be extended into five more roads after households voted in favour of the measures.
Controlled parking zones (CPZ) were introduced in Addison Road, Chaucer Road, Dangan Road and Spratt Hall Road in an attempt to deter Tube commuters from leaving their cars during the day.
But the CPZ pushed the problem into nearby Wanstead Place and Voluntary Place, prompting councillors to agree to restrictions there.
Now a majority of residents in Church Path, Fitzgerald Road and Greenstone Mews have responded to a consultation by expressing support for similar measures to be introduced near their homes.
John Sawyer, 79, of Wanstead Place, welcomed the move, which is subject to councillors' approval.
He said: "It is ridiculous really. Some days I have no where to park at all, it's awful.
"We should get our permits in March, so we have been told anyway. That should be a vast improvement."
But some fear the restrictions pose a serious threat to businesses in nearby High Street.
Beryl Darling, 50, of Belgrave Road, has started a petition calling for just limited restrictions to deter commuters, but not shoppers.
She said: "It makes me feel sick that they are thinking of extending the zone.
"It is quite understandable that residents want permits but they don't need to be 8.30am to 6.30pm, they could be 8.30am to 10.30am and 4.30pm to 6.30pm to keep the commuters out and the community in.
"It is an ultimatum residents have been given, not a choice.
"If the councillors want to kill off one of the best communities in Redbridge they will pay for it at the next election."
Councillors will also consider introducing "triple use bays" which accommodate residential and business permit holders and pay and display customers in Spratt Hall Road.
There is also a recommendation to set up a maximum of 20 minutes parking for a limited period on weekdays in some parts of Addison and Dangan Roads.
A previous campaign supported by more than 4,000 people saw off a council plan to introduce parking restrictions in and around the High Street.
A decision will be made at a meeting on Monday.
