A DEDICATED young cub has been honoured with one of scouting's most sought-after awards.
Ethan Starling, a member of the 4th Epping Elm pack, has been presented with the Chief Scout's Silver Award - the highest available to cubs.
The 11-year-old has spent three years working toward the certificate, completing a series of demanding challenges to prove his fitness, outdoor skills, creativity and commitment to the community.
The youngster was presented with his award by assistant district commissioner Gill Smith at the pack's headquarters in Stonard's Hill, Epping.
He has also been invited to a ceremony hosted by the Lord Lieutenant of Essex.
Pack leader Tony Church said: "The award is very rarely given.
"Ethan has encouraged a number of new members to the group and they are thoroughly enjoying it.
"He's an extremely able and pleasant young lad and he really will go far."
