TWO charities have teamed up to organise a fund-raising half marathon around Waltham Forest and are appealing for runners to take part.

Chingford-based young people's charity the KNI Foundation has organised several runs in the borough since it was founded in 2010 but has announced it will be working with Forest YMCA for the event in 2013.

The 13 mile course will pass a variety of landmarks and historic sites in Waltham Forest, including Walthamstow Stadium, the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow and parts of Epping Forest.

It takes place on Sunday March 31.

The KNI Foundation was founded by Dean Ibrahim in memory of his brother Kenny, who died in a road crash in Thailand in 2009.

Mr Ibrahim said “This is a really innovative collaboration between two local charities - we are pooling our resources to make the most of the event.

"This is a great way for dedicated runners to not only conquer a challenging half marathon road race, but to use their efforts to make a positive social impact in east London.

"We hope this event will bring people together in Waltham Forest to celebrate the diverse mix of cultures and interesting heritage we have here.”

Emma Cornish, fundraising officer at Forest YMCA, added: “We are delighted to be the affiliated charity of the Waltham Forest Borough Run.

"In 2013 the event is going to be bigger and better than ever, so we really hope that residents from across the borough will rise to the challenge to support vulnerable young people.”

It is the only half-marathon within the M25 before April and organisers say it would be perfect practice for anyone who intends on running the London Marathon later in the year.

Mr Ibrahim added: "Runners can choose to fund-raise for either or both charities.

"Whoever they choose to support, they will be helping vulnerable young people in Waltham Forest, whether it’s by providing opportunities for them to participate in recreational activities with the KNI Foundation or providing a home for young homeless people at Forest YMCA."
