A TAKEAWAY has been given permission to open until 1am at weekends after dropping its bid to serve food until 5am.
Kebabish in Palmerston Road, Walthamstow, had wanted to stay open almost round-the-clock seven days a week but the police and council objected.
Instead the takeaway amended its application for a closing time of 1am on Fridays and Saturdays and 12.30am on other days.
It was approved by a council licensing committee earlier this week.
A council report said its licensing team had previously received unsubstantiated complaints that the takeaway was already illegally staying open until 5am.
Kebabish applied for the new licence after the council sent it a warning about staying open too late.
PC John Ruby, Waltham Forest Police's Licensing Officer, previously said he was concerned that the business might attract gangs if it was open until 5am on a regular basis.
Kebabish says it will install a new CCTV and alarm systems, as well as give refresher safety training to staff to improve security.
