A CONSULTATION has been launched into proposals to triple the official capacity of a primary school.
Waltham Forest Council is asking parents for their views about the plans for Stoneydown Park Primary in Walthamstow.
The school is based in Pretoria Avenue but the authority wants to open an additional site for pupils at the former Disability Resource Centre in nearby Warner Road.
Under the plans, the number of forms of entry would increase to three, meaning the number of pupils admitted to the reception year would increase from 30 to 90 from September 2014.
The school has already taken on extra reception classes in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012.
It is officially classified as a one form entry school but due to the 'temporary' increases it effectively operates as having the equivalent of 1.6 classes per year.
The consultation closes on December 21 and the council's cabinet is expected to make a decision in April 2013, with the expansion being implemented from October 2013.
It comes amid growing concern about the shortage of school places for children in the borough.
