AMATEUR footballers took part in a tournament to mark a day raising awareness of violence against women.
A team of Victim Support staff, from Southend Road in Woodford Green, won only their last game at the tournament in Fairlop Power League off Forest Road, Barkingside, but said the event was still a success for marking White Ribbon Day on Sunday, when people wear a white ribbon as a pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.
Jan Scott, Victim Support's north east London area manager, said: "People had a lot of fun, we'll definitely do it again next year. I think the day's very important in marking White Ribbon Day and making sure this issue remains in the public eye."
The charity's statistics show its Waltham Forest branch had 2,133 referrals of domestic violence in the last 12 months, compared to 1,927 in Barking & Dagenham and 1,791 in Redbridge.
