A PAIR of burglars smashed their way into two high street shops within minutes of each other last night.
Police are investigating after the break-ins at the post office and Senners newsagents in Ongar High Street shortly before 3am last night (Wednesday November 28).
In both incidents the two men tried to steal cigarettes, but were unable to break open the security cabinets they were stored in.
A number of residents called police and a widespread search was carried out by the force's helicopter and other units, but no trace of the men was found.
Investigating officer DS Michelle Rhodes said: "These two burglaries happened within the space of just a few minutes, starting at 2.45am.
"We believe that two men broke in the post office first then went to the newsagents. But we are not sure which way they drove away from the town.
"We know that a number of vehicles passed through the High Street before 2.45am and we would like to hear from anyone who remembers seeing the two men or a vehicle they were using.”
- Anyone who can help should contact DS Rhodes or her colleagues at Ongar area investigations team on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
