A "FRIENDLY and harmonious" school has been praised for making improvements and having "outstanding" pupils.

George Tomlinson Primary, in Leytonstone, has been rated 'good' following an inspection by Ofsted.

It is a step up from the school's previous 'satisfactory' rating in a report by the education watchdog last year.

Inspectors said the quality of teaching, the school's leadership, governors, and progress made by children were all good.

The behaviour and attitude of pupils was also praised as "outstanding".

But Ofsted said there could still be some improvements made in teaching, with some staff needing to have higher expectations of their pupils.

The report, published following an inspection earlier this month, said: "Pupils’ behaviour and their attitudes to learning are outstanding and this helps them to learn well.

"They are always polite and welcoming, and they like to help each other in lessons. They enjoy school very much and know how to stay safe.

"The learning opportunities and experiences offered by the school make a significant contribution to the pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, which is outstanding.

It added: "The school is a very harmonious and friendly community where pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education."

The school, in Tomlinson Road, teaches more than 560 pupils.
