About Eight rocked out in Brick Lane earlier this month. They are a band based in East London/ West Essex, and have an incredibly original sound.
After the release of a debut CD, “Never Too Late”, in 2006 and the EP “Periwinkle Blue” in 2009, the band wasn't gigging too often. However, on the 20th November 2012, they had a gig at 93 Feet East, a club in the infamous Brick Lane. When asked about the night, Laura Richardson, lead singer, said; “The night was really enjoyable . We have moved away from doing more frequent, small gigs to bigger gigs every 2 or 3 months, as it gives us a chance to have a longer set and introduce a few new songs each time, with time to rehearse in between.”
The gig also was for a good cause, as it served as a fund raiser for The Prince's Trust, which supports young people with education and business innovation. “We did a gig for The Prince’s Trust a couple of years ago because we liked the idea of supporting young people and it went really well, so we thought it was about time we did it again! I think we raised about £1200 for the Charity, after we’d paid for the venue hire. The performers did it for free.”
The band itself is relatively unique, with an extremely broad ranging style, with subtle influences from other artists. “Influences in some of the riffs played and chord progressions come from bands like Blondie, The Smiths, Tracy Chapman etc, but blink and you’d miss them! We know they are there, though. Guitar solos tend to go a bit “Dave Gilmore” from Pink Floyd, if Paolo has anything to do with it!”
