Tayshan John, 20 years of age has been enjoying music from the age of five as she said “I’ve always wanted to become a singer, from the age of 5” this shows her determination from a very young age. Tayshan has been doing studio time 24/7 with her friends in BNB and is ready to work her hardest to get to where she wishes to be. Tayshan said, “I studied music at City and Islington College, and made some of the greatest friends through this course”.  She also stated “This isn’t the first performance I have done publicly, as I went to Theatre Train from around the age of 7 for five years”. Tayshan explained to us that Theatre Train was a drama club, where she did dancing, singing and acting, which also gave her the chance to perform in Royal Albert Hall etc. This 20 year old had the chance to show off her voice and talent to the one of busiest places in Walthamstow (Walthamstow Central). This wonderful advantage gave her the chance to be introduced to people who were interested in her voice. She enjoyed this experience as one of the songs she chose to sing Amy Winehouse- ‘In My Bed’ meant something to her and she sung it with soul. I’ll say it was wonderful to see someone express their voice with such confidence, the public where stopping and staring intrigued by her vocals. Tayshan said “I was very happy to see my friends and family supporting me in my performance”. Tayshan doesn’t get paid as yet for her what she enjoys, but that certainly won’t stop her, this young woman is full of determination. She feels that music allows her to release her feelings and express herself. “You can make a song your own, just by changing the tone you choose to sing it in”. Individuality seems key in the music industry otherwise you won’t stand out from the crowd. This experience was great for her to be able to perform as people were interested with her voice. I got to ask Tayshan what artist she wishes to be like and what music she prefers, “I would love to be like Janelle Monae or Miguel, also I prefer Neo Soul to anything else” She feels Neo Soul benefits her voice. Motivation and dedication is what you need, stay motivated is what I say.
