On the 25th November 2012 was the Valentines Mansions and Gardens Open Studio event. This is when the artists occupying the studios on the second floor of the Valentines Mansions showcase their work. They do this about three times a year and whenever I go and see their work; I always get blown away.
To be more precise there are about 7 artists occupying the showrooms and each of them has their own ‘talent’ lets say. Some of the genres include: Ceramics, fine art, new media photography and stained glass.
As I went through all of the showrooms, I noticed that the décor of each of the showrooms reflected the artist’s personality. For example when I visited Amanda Seljubac’s showroom, which contained a lot of beautiful stained glass and fused glass pieces, her room was quite light and airy; the light shining in from the windows almost ‘illuminated’ the stained glass pieces strewn across the room.
Furthermore I also went to Louise Moore’s showroom that had some very pretty displays, she had a shelf on the left side of the room with some clay work and my favourite one was shaped like a giant shell. Moreover opposite it she had a display of her recent work, which consisted of personalised images on porcelain where “your photographs can be transformed to become permanent images onto porcelain. The final piece can remain glazed or unglazed.”
Also currently there is he Valentines Mansion Studio Artists Exhibition going on, which will end on Sunday 2nd December and currently the artists are exhibiting their works, which are within the boundaries of 10x10 so please be sure to visit that!
