THE DISTRICT has woken to a blanket of snow this morning - but icy roads are leading to traffic problems.
Epping Forest has been transformed into a winter wonderland after an estimated two inches fell overnight.
But the scene is less idyllic for commuters, with long queues and breakdowns reported across the district and the county council rushing out a fleet of gritting lorries to tackle icy roads.
Traffic is queuing in both directions on the A414 in North Weald between the junction with the B181 High Road and Four Wantz roundabout following an accident.
Queues are also reported on the M11 northbound between junctions six and seven and in both directions in Hamlet Hill, Roydon, which is believed to be partially blocked near the junction with Tylers Road.
Snow and ice on the line have also led to Central line delays between Leytonstone and Epping.
The Met Office has issued a weather warning for ice, urging drivers to take care in difficult driving conditions.
Temperatures are expected to remain low throughout the day, reaching a maximum of only two degrees and plummeting to minus three in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
