A CHURCH needs £5,000 to complete a £260,000 restoration project.

In a final fundraising push, people are being offered the chance to have a name inscribed for £20 on a stone artwork donated to Christ Church in Wanstead Place.

It is an attempt to appeal to the wider community after the church raised £120,000 following a £140,000 grant from English Heritage.

Congregation member, Katie Lewis, 33, of Drummond Road, said: "We are sure this will be popular amongst the congregation but we also wanted to reach out to those that don't worship at Christ Church.

"Perhaps someone may wish to put a name on of someone who did worship there, got married there or if Christ Church or Wanstead holds a special place in their hearts."

The artwork has space for 500 names and will be displayed permanently in the church.

The work, which began in June, included repairs to the roof and stonework.

But the finishing touches need to be put to guttering to make the building watertight.
