FAMILIES living near alleyways that make their homes vulnerable to burglary can apply for a council grant to help with security.
Redbridge Council have allocated £25,000 towards providing gates for the most vulnerable alleys in the borough.
To secure a share of the funding residents will need to get agreement from neighbours and provide evidence of a burglary problem.
Applicants will also need to check if their scheme requires planning permission and get three independent quotes for the cost of the work as well as identifying any other costs.
The council will provide half the money for any successful application.
For more information and advice on how to apply, visit www.redbridge.gov.uk and search for crime prevention, email rscp@redbridge.gov.uk or speak to your local Safer Neighbourhood Team.
